2018 Joint Call mid-term seminar and introduction of the 9 selected projects of the 2021 Joint Call

Innovative solutions, systems and practices to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from the livestock sector and a look towards climate mitigation through circular agricultural systems

As the European Union transitions towards climate-neutrality by 2050, innovative solutions, systems and practices will be needed within the agricultural sector to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance carbon removals. On 1st December three ERA-NETs (FACCE ERA-GAS, ICT AGRI-FOOD, ERA-NET SUSAN) joined forces to bring together 17 projects to discuss promising approaches being developed by these projects.

After the welcome word from Niels Gøtke the coordinator of the former ERA-NET ICT-AGRI 2, we listened to our guest speaker Tom O'Dwyer (Teagasc, Ireland) on the Signpost Programme - leading climate action by Irish farmers by putting science into practice. You can watch this again on https://youtu.be/QEG3FSPmUZM.

After which, the eight projects funded in 2018 presented their mid-term results as well as what is in the pipeline for the rest of the project and the expected impact for farming, policy and regulation. Topics discussed include seaweed additives to livestock feed, applying a regional approach to greenhouse gas mitigation and precision livestock technologies.

The 9 projects funded in the 2021 Joint Call to explore ‘Circularity in mixed crop and livestock farming systems, with emphasis on greenhouse gas mitigation’ presented their plans for the future. Topics that are to be explored include reduction of emissions through crop, livestock and agroforestry interactions, creating LCA inventories for circularity assessments and the use of participatory co-innovation to assess nutrient circularity.
